What is Discrimination?
Discrimination law is set out in the Equality Act 2010. Discrimination includes direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, discrimination arising from disability and failure to make reasonable adjustments for a disabled person. Other prohibited conduct which falls under the Equality Act 2010 includes harassment and victimisation.
It is against the law to discriminate against any person on one or more of the following nine protected characteristics: –
- Age
- Disability
- Gender Reassignment
- Marriage and Civil Partnership
- Pregnancy and Maternity
- Race
- Religion or Belief
- Sex
- Sexual Orientation
