What is the Data Protection Act?
The Data Protection Act is a law that was introduced in 2018 and is a means of setting down rules as to how organisations and the government can use your personal information. These are called “data protection principles” and include an obligation to only use personal data fairly, lawfully and transparently.
For more sensitive information, including race, health, religious belief, sexual orientation there are stronger protections. Individuals have a right to find out what information the government and other organisations store about them.
