For claims presented for discrimination, harassment, victimisation and detriment in protected disclosure (“whistleblowing”) claims, employees can claim compensation for ‘injury to feelings’.

‘Injury to feelings’ is a sum of money designed to compensate the employee for mistreatment by their employer such as for humiliation, worry, anger, stress, anxiety and depression amongst others.

This compensation is based upon the ‘Vento Bands’ and the bands are usually increased on or around April in each year.

For claims presented to an Employment Tribunal on or after 6 April 2025, the Vento bands will be as follows: –

Lower Band £1,200 – £12,100.

Middle Band £12,100 – £36,400

Upper Band £36,400 – £60,700

The most serious of cases may be awarded compensation in excess of £60,700 but that is the exception rather than the rule.
